Celebrating ACT Seniors Month

ACT Seniors Month (1 September to 1 October) is an opportunity to inform, inspire, and celebrate our ageing population. This is a time dedicated to celebrating the valuable contributions of older Canberrans and highlighting opportunities that promote healthy ageing, lifelong learning, and community connection.

This is a government-supported initiative offering a diverse program of activities, workshops, and events for older members of our community. The month-long celebration encourages participation across a wide range of areas, including:

Health and wellbeing: Supporting active lifestyles and positive ageing

Education and learning: Creating opportunities to develop new skills and interests

Arts and culture: Showcasing creativity, history, and heritage

Community connection: Fostering inclusivity, engagement, and social support

This annual event not only celebrates the lives and achievements of older people but also reinforces the importance of creating environments where seniors are supported to remain active, independent, and connected.

A wide variety of events and activities are held throughout the month, which you can explore here.

At The Butler Canberra, we proudly share the values underpinning ACT Seniors Month. Our focus is on supporting individuals to live independently at home while maintaining meaningful community connections.

We understand that ageing well goes beyond physical health, it includes fostering relationships, encouraging participation in local activities, and ensuring access to services that enhance quality of life. We remain committed to empowering older people to live with dignity, independence, and purpose.

ACT Seniors Month is a timely reminder to celebrate ageing as a stage of life filled with opportunity, contribution, and connection.
